Horcott Lakes Fishery

This month’s UK carp fishery of the month is Horcott Lakes.

This beautiful day ticket fishery is situated in the Cotswolds and close to the small town of Fairford, United Kingdom. It contains some truly beautiful common and mirror carp.

Horcott Lakes Fishery Consists Of 3 Lakes

The Main Lake

Considered a carp angler’s dream, it is approximately 22 acres in size and has a stock of over 800 carp. The average weight of carp present is 20lb, a very large stock of fish up to 20lb in weight; there are 4 carp which break the 40lb barrier! An incredible 50-plus and 30lb fish and the lake record exceeding 40lb.The main lake has gin-clear water with many features for anglers to target, being a gravel pit. The water depths average between 5ft and 6ft.The lake has 45 mature swims with tree-lined banks.

Fishing Tips

The fish love their food, so normal feed, boilies, pellets, and particles all work if used correctly.Either fish PVA solid bags over lighter weed or find clear spots in the weed with a marker rod or lead around and clip up to a clear spot.

Never be afraid to ask a bailiff at Horcott for advice; they are there to help and are a friendly team.

The Scout Lake

This mature lake, which was dug in the 1970s, is approximately 9 acres in size. Another one of Horcott Lake’s jewels! Again, in gin-clear water, the water depths vary from 4ft up to 10ft.
Don’t forget your marker rod for spot finding!
With gullies and holes in the weed beds, definitely be prepared for catching those Cotswold carp.

The stock in Scout Lake exceeds 250 carp, with commons and mirrors up to8 lb, which are putting on weight every year.

These fish are definitely wise and can be rather tricky to catch, but the rewards are there: truly beautiful Cotswold carp.

Fishing Tips

The bailiffs recommend fishing over a good bed of bait and fishing patiently to not spook the fish.Baits to include boilies, pellets and particles.Again, please speak to one of the bailiffs for the latest advice on fishing methods; it really could make a difference to your trip.

The Tench Lake

Although not a carp lake, so to speak, the Tench Lake does hold a few carp in the mid-20s.The lake is around 3 acres in size; it would be ideal for young anglers or beginners and also specimen tench anglers.

For specimen tench anglers, the fish have hit the 10lb mark! The lake’s depth is around 4 ft, with gin-clear water and plenty of features for fish to hide in.

Fishing Tips

The tench tactics love maggots, worms, corn, etc. Some great results can be had from pellets fished in a PVA bag.

Please head over to Horcott Lake’s website for booking information and the fishery rules.

Conclusion

Horcott Lakes is a true gem of a fishery set in the beautiful Cotswolds on the Cotswold Water Park, a prime UK fishing location. Hopefully I will be adding the venue in one of the competition prize draws on our home page soon.
